These students are doing some serious and awesome work! I'm very proud!
Check out below what's going on in the art room!
1st Grade Warm and Cool Color Pumpkins
1st Grade just finished up these radical pumpkins! Students were introduced to symbols and together we talked about and made a list of symbols that represent fall! Students studied the curves and textures of a pumpkin as we created our drawings together step by step. One the second day of art, students were introduced to the concept of applied and real texture. Students used glue to outline their pumpkin and to apply real texture. On the third day, students and I talked about color and identified warm and cool colors when using chalk to add color to our pumpkins. What a mess! - but totally worth it!
1st Grade Pointillism Diptych Gingerbread
Next, 1st grade will begin to study the art of Pointillism, specifically looking at the artwork of Georges Seurat! Students will be inspired by the story The Gingerbread Man to create a diptych artwork of a male and female ginger couple! Students will be using Q-Tips to create a painting forming dots to replicate the style of pointillism!
3rd Grade Crazy Picasso Portraits
Students were introduced to the artwork of Pablo Picasso and studied Cubism to make these crazy portraits! Students were taken out of the comfort zone when analyzing a photograph compared to portraits painted by Picasso. Students created their own portraits using simple shapes and lines. When placing these facial features in abnormal places, students started to appreciate abstract art in a fun way! Students will be using colored pencils to create intermediate color, which will really make these portraits come to life!
4th Grade Glue and Chalk Pumpkins
Students began this project by studying picures in a bird's eye view that enhanced different, shapes, and lines because of the interesting perspective. Drawing step by step, students created an interesting composition of a bird's eye view pumpkin patch. Next, students learned about applied and real texture when outlining their pumpkin with glue. On the third day, students learned and applied blending techniques with chalk to turn a flat, 2 Dimensional circle into a 3 Dimensional looking pumpkin. This project was inspired by Ginger Pacer. Check out her blog here at www.paintbrushrocket.blogspot.com
5th and 6th Grade Space Adventure
5th and 6th grade students have been super excited about this project and so have I! Students were introduced to the art element "Value," by creating simple circles into 3 Dimensional spheres! Using oil pastel, students had to use the color wheel to pick out tints, tones, and shades to create a highlight, midtone, and shadow for these awesome space compositions!
Kindergarten Castles
Kindergarteners were introduced to the art element, texture! Students used white and black paint with sponges to create a rock-like texture! On the second day of art, students were introduced to the architecture of castles using simple shapes. Students took a virtual tour of the Warwick Castle to be inspired to create these castle collages!
2nd Grade Day of the Dead Calavera
Students were introduced to Day of the Dead, a holiday in Mexico that celebrates the lives of those who passed! Students reflected on special people or pets in their lives that might have passed away. Then, students created a calavera drawing on a white piece of paper, cut it out, and used festival colors of paint to really make this artwork pop!
