My name is Emily Yambor and I'm so excited to start my new year of teaching at River View Local Schools as the new art teacher and gifted intervention specialist at Conesville and Keene Elementary! I graduated from Bowling Green State University in the spring of 2012 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Currently, I am continuing my education as I start to work towards a gifted intervention specialist certificate.
I've always had a passion for teaching and leadership; however it didn't start with the subject of visual art. My passion for leadership stemmed from my involvement with music ever since the 5th grade. Learning the stepping stones and fundamentals of music through the art of percussion took responsibility because I always strive to be a better musician. I continued with percussion through high school, where I was placed into a leadership role with the marching band drum line. It was my responsibility to instruct the group towards an excellent music performance, which took patience, discipline, and organization. My love for music helped me grow into an adult who quickly grew a love for teaching.
Art was always a personal hobby of mine, which soon grew into an obsession nearing the end of my educational experiences in high school. As I entered the start of my years at Bowling Green State University, I gambled at the idea of pursuing a major in visual art rather than music because I simply started to feel my talent in the subject was really starting to blossom. Of course, I still continued my involvement with music when I joined the Falcon Marching Band for two years. What sparked my journey towards a future in art education was the idea of combining my love for leadership and my passion for art. Thus began my experiences towards becoming an art educator.
I love teaching because it continues to shape me into the young lady that I always have hoped to be. Teaching has opened several diverse doors to many relationships with mentors and students that I value every day. Many of my approaches to education have been inspired by my mentors and students. My lessons have been inspired by my personal creativity, the creativity of other educators and mentors, artists, historical events, culture, inter-disciplinary subjects, the Ohio State Standards, and of course, my students.
